Candied Walnuts

I’m not sure why I felt intimidated to make these candied walnuts because they are so quick and simple. I usually just buy them in the store, but we didn’t have any on hand when I wanted to use them. These took almost no effort and the ingredients are likely things you already have on hand.

An added bonus to making them yourself is they have less yucky ingredients and you can easily adjust the sweetness to your taste. We liked that these were a little less sicky sweet and had more of a toasted walnut flavor with that quintessential crunch.

Most types of nuts would work great, if you don’t have walnuts or prefer pecans feel free to swap them out for your preference. I let mine cool down on the counter, but for faster cool down time feel free to pop the tray in the fridge.

Candied Walnuts

These quick and easy candied walnuts are perfect on a summer salad or on your favorite ice cream sundae.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup walnuts (halves or pieces)
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon butter (or butter alternative)

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a small pan and cook over medium heat. Stir frequently for about 5 minutes or until sugar is melted, so ingredients don't burn.
  2. Once nuts are coated in the caramelized sugar mixture, pour out onto parchment lined baking sheet and spread quickly into an even layer.
  3. Let cool until hardened at room temperature or in fridge to speed things up. Once hardened, break apart into bite sized pieces if stuck together in clumps. Store leftovers in airtight container for up to a week.
